Finding and Using Images

When adding images and other works you did not create to your own work, it is important to ensure you are not violating copyright.

Determine if you can use an image

Find an image you can use

You can find many images with Creative Commons licenses, which provide permissions to share and use others' works under easy-to-follow conditions, like providing attribution or not using for commercial purposes.

  • Search Creative Commons content - Google images, Flickr, or Pixabay are good places to start. It’s important to double check that what you find is under a CC license.
  • Bugwood image database - grant-funded project providing high-quality images for use in educational applications. Images are made available under a Creative Commons license.

See our Open Educational Resources guide for a larger list of image resources.

Finding Books & eBooks (Online Books, Full-Text)

There are multiple ways to search for books.

The CSU library provides access to hundreds of electronic books online and will be purchasing more and more books in electronic format over time.

Just interested in E-Books? We have E-Book collections from different vendors:

E-Books & Search Examples

The CSU Libraries are purchasing more and more books in electronic, or e, formats. You can find these e-books in Discovery by selecting "E-Books" format.  See the example below.

If you would like to see e-books on food webs, search Primo for food webs:

example search for food webs in Primo

Then on the left side of the screen, click on "Resource Type." It will expand and you will see "Books/eBooks" as an option; click on it.

Lastly, on the left side of the screen, you will see "Show Only" already expanded. Click on "Available Online at Morgan Library" to ensure you are limiting to electronic books and book chapters.
