Searching for Articles
There are a variety of databases you can use for research in Health & Exercise Science. It is often a good idea to try multiple databases, since Health & Exercise Science borders on a variety of disciplines/topics (ex. sports science, medicine, nutrition, etc.). MEDLINE (EBSCO), below, is nearly the same collection of articles, but has a different search interface, for anyone wanting a more familiar interface.
- MEDLINE (EBSCO)MEDLINE is the premier medical database of the nation, and this version has the widely familiar EBSCO interface (used in many other popular library databases). This version is recommended for medical topics (such as illness, injury, or treatment options).
- Web of ScienceThis is a general database, which focuses on scientific topics (including health, nutrition, and environmental factors). It is particularly useful for finding a broad array of resources, and for tracking citation patterns for articles of interest. The vast majority of content is peer-reviewed; use the FindIt@CSU for every article to find full-text.
- SPORTDiscusThis database focuses on athletics, fitness, sports studies, and sports medicine. It is best for topics that specifically relate to one of these areas. It uses the EBSCO interface, which is familiar to many.
- Food Science and Technology AbstractsThis database focuses on articles related to food and nutrition, and is best for research on relevant topics. It uses the EBSCO interface, which is familiar to many.
- CAB Abstracts 1973 - presentThis database focuses on the applied life sciences, and includes articles about agriculture, food, and nutrition. It uses the EBSCO interface, which is familiar to many.
