eBooks for Helpdesk Staff
eBooks can be a challenge for our users to checkout and move to a device owing to device compatability and managing digital copyright using Adobe Digital Editions. While the library has a full and detailed eBook libguide, this page will provide quick guidance for the helpdesk.
Two ways patrons can use a Morgan Library eBook:
1)You can view they preview in a web-based viewer to use the title during a single browsing session. Previews often allow limited cut/paste and print ability (see chart).
2)Books can be downloaded for checkout. Ironically, eBooks can't be checked out and moved to an eReader device on Morgan Library computers because that process has to be managed by a software called Adobe Digital Editions that ties the user's login to their computer and device. Additionally, Kindles are not a supported device (see list). To download an eBook for checkout to read on your own computer or move to an eReade device, you must do it on your own computer with your own Adobe Digital Editions account.
The tabs at the top of the page will explain how to download and use Adobe Digital Editions, provide a flow chart of the eBook use process, and a chart summarizing each eBook vendor.
