Information Literacy Support

If you have a research assignment in your course, a librarian can help your students learn the necessary information literacy skills to succeed. We offer the following forms of information literacy support:

Political Science Research Competency Guidelines

Information Literacy Defined

Definition: "the set of integrated abilities encompassing the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how information is produced and valued, and the use of information in creating new knowledge and participating ethically in communities of learning."

information has value, authority is constructed and contextual, research as inquiry, information creation as a process, scholarship as conversation, searching as strategic exploration

Like other teaching faculty, librarians are guided by a complex set of six core concepts or frames of understanding when developing curricula, outlined in ACRL's Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education. These concepts reflect and bolster one of our primary purposes: to help students learn to be effective, knowledgeable consumers and creators of information.
