Ez Proxy Error Messages

1.  I tried to log in, but I get the error message that my username and password are not correct.

There are several reasons why you could be having difficulty. 

  • The first step in troubleshooting is to verify your EID is not working.  Test it by trying to log into RamCT.  If you are able to log in to either of those accounts, then it was a typing error.  Please try to log in to EzProxy again.
  • If your EID is not working at all because you are not sure you have an EID set up, forgot your password, etc., please refer to Eidentity for futher assistance.  You may call the ACNS Help Desk at (970) 491-7276

2.  I logged into EzProxy and my browser is displaying a blank screen. 

This is most likely due to browser settings.  Please check the following:

  • Pop-up blocker--Disable pop-up blockers
  • Firewall--If you see "this page cannot be displayed," then it is probably a firewall issue.  Please refer to the About Firewalls section of the guide.
  • Cookies--Make sure your browser is set to accept cookies.
  • JavaScript--Make sure JavaScript is enabled.
  • Java--Make sure Java is enabled.

3.  What does it mean when I get an error message indicating that a line must be added to the config file?

Example: Error: To allow http://abc.wiley.com to be used in a starting point URL, your EZproxy administrator must first authorize the hostname of this URL in the ezproxy.cfg file.

Within this database’s section of ezproxy.cfg, the following line must be added: Host abc.wiley.com The EZproxy server must then be restarted to make the change take effect.

This often occurs because the domain name has changed for the resource.  In many instances, the library was not informed of the change. 

Please contact the Help Desk (970) 491-1841 and provide the name of the resource so Ez Proxy's configuration file can be modified.  

4. What does the following message mean: "Connection refused by hostname, please try again later"?

For any of the following reasons EzProxy is unable to connect to the resource:

  • The resource is temporarily unavailable.  Wait a few minutes and try again in a different web browser.  If the problem persists, please contact the Help Desk.
  • Your web browser is blocked (ie, firewall issue).  Adjust your firewall settings or contact your Internet provider.

5.  Why do certain features of an electronic resource (ie RSS feeds) seem to be disabled when accessing them via Ez Proxy?

Generally, the problem has to do with the way these features are programmed on the particular e-resource site.  We would still like you to report these problems to us for several reasons:

  • Ez Proxy's configuration for the resource may need to be modified.
  • The e-resource itself needs attention and we would like to notify the vendor for a resolution.
  • It may be a known issue with the vendor, and therefore, we would like to broadcast this to all of our users.
  • Especially in the case of electronic journal platforms, content may not be available due to our particular subscription terms.  We would need to find out if this is the case.
