Transfer Students
This guide is to introduce transfer students to the resources at CSU Libraries.
Starting Databases
If you are new to CSU, this list provides a few databases that will great places to start your research. For more specific databases, see the "Finding Resources for Your Subject" tab or contact a librarian.
- Academic Search Ultimate This link opens in a new windowAcademic Search Premier is one of our most popular databases. It includes all disciplinary areas and covers both popular and scholarly resources. Includes full text, peer-reviewed journals, PDF backfiles to 1975, and searchable cited references.
- Web of ScienceWeb of Science (WOS) is an excellent, broadly-focused database that covers all areas of the sciences and social sciences. It is also a great tool for tracking how often and where an article has been cited. This resource is more appropriate for science and social science majors; humanities and liberal arts majors may struggle to find enough resources. Also note: the vast majority (approximately 99%) of articles are peer-reviewed. There is no full-text in WOS, so use the FindIt@CSU button for all articles.
- Gale ebooks (Gale Virtual Reference Library) This link opens in a new windowThis database provides reference entries (ex. encyclopedia entries, overviews, etc.--think of it as an academic wikipedia). Use it to get background information about a topic or potential topic. These reference entries are typically considered credible, but they are not considered peer-reviewed or research articles (for students who have requirements for their assignments).
These are just a few basic places to start. We highly recommend you branch out beyond these starting resources, and would be happy to help you find some good resources for your particular topic and research needs!
