For veterinary publications, use the JAVMA Citation Style (reference examples start on page 6).
Most biomedical publications use the American Medical Association (AMA) style guide to cite source in text and in bibliographies (works cited, references). The AMA and JAVMA citation styles require journal abbreviations (instead of full titles) in references. To find journal abbreviations for biomedical journals, look up the journal title in the National Library of Medicine (NLM) Catalog.
