Full text and cover-to-cover indexing and abstracts for journals covering communication, mass media, linguistics, rhetoric, language, logic, and other closely related fields.
- Congressional Hearings (ProQuest)Written and oral statements of witnesses, transcripts question-and-answer session between the committee and witnesses, reports, exhibits, and other materials submitted for the record by witnesses.
- Congressional Publications (ProQuest)A web-based indexing and abstracting service for Congressional committee publications, including hearings (testimony), committee prints, reports, documents, and public laws.
- CQ Researcher OnlineCoverage: 1991 to present
A collection of reports covering political and social issues, including topics in health, international affairs, education, the environment, technology and the U.S. economy. Reports include opposing perspectives, background information on issues, and relevant contacts and further reading. - HeinOnlineCoverage: 1754 to present

Comprised of PDFs of full-text publications generated in the course of congressional lawmaking. Each history includes the full text of the public law itself, all versions of related bills, law-specific Congressional Record excerpts, committee hearings, reports, and prints. Also included are presidential signing statements, CRS reports, and miscellaneous congressional publications that provide background material to aid in the understanding of issues related to the making of the law. - National Journal HotlineCoverage: 2001 to present

One of the world's leading reference works, covering political and economic information in more than 250 countries and territories. - Social Sciences (ProQuest Collection)Political science, sociology, the applied social sciences, criminal justice, education, and other areas. Indexing coverage of the scholarly literature in the social sciences, including full-text scholarly journals, many published outside of North America and in languages other than English, and key non-periodical sources such as dissertations and working papers.
- Social TheorySocial Theory delves into the history and evolution of social thought. Topics include sociology, economics, political science, history, anthropology, media studies, diversity studies, literature, and psychology.

Nexis Uni is a comprehensive database with access to over 17,000 news, business and legal sources. It provides full-text of local, regional, national and international newspapers, as well as access to scholarly journals, trade publications, television and radio broadcasts, newswires and blogs. Its extensive legal sources include federal and state cases and statutes, including U.S. Supreme Court decisions since 1790. With business information on more than 80 million U.S. and international companies and more than 75 million executives, it is a robust resource for in-depth business research. - Access World NewsCoverage: Varies
Access World News from NewsBank provides full-text information and perspectives from over 600 U.S. and over 700 international sources, each with its own distinctive focus offering diverse viewpoints on local, regional and world issues. Date coverage varies with individual newspaper.
Basic mechanics for making efficient search statements
Core principles for creating efficient search statements that are applicable in virtually any database.

- Wildcard (#): The “#” replaces any extra characters that may appear in alternative spellings. For example, “colo#r” finds both color and colour.
- Wildcard (?): The “?” replaces one character, for example “ne?t” finds neat, nest, or next, but will not find net.
- Truncation (*): The “*” replaces any number of characters and will find all forms of a word root, for example, “therap*” finds therapy, therapies, therapist, therapists, therapeutic, therapeutically, etc.
