A primary source is the ground-level evidence for any discipline. In most disciplines, primary sources offer first-hand, original accounts of events, while secondary sources offer analysis and/or interpretation of the material. Examples of primary sources in international studies include diaries, letters, speeches, photographs, newspaper articles, maps, laws, raw data (polls or census), interviews, government documents, and much more.
