There is no single satisfactory online listing of major think tanks. Among them, the sources below do identify the most important think tanks.

- Colorado Center on Law & PolicyEmphasizes "Justice and economic security for lower income Coloradans." Includes the Colorado Fiscal Policy Institute.
- Colorado FreedomConnectorEmphasizes "smaller, less intrusive government."
- Colorado PolsThis is a blog rather than a think tank. Useful for tracking informal political gossip.
- Environment ColoradoCovers clean air, energy, growth, preservation, and transportation.
- Independence InstituteGenerally considered more conservative.
- State of the Rockies Project (Colorado College)Annual reports regarding vital issues affecting the Rocky Mountain region.
