Learn to Research

Guides, tips, and definitions for library research.

Searching by topic

While scholarly article titles are often narrow and specific, scholarly book titles can be broader or vague.

Example:

  • Scholarly article: "Prescribed Exercise for the Treatment of Depression in a College Population: An Interprofessional Approach"
  • Scholarly book: Depression Strategies

So, you may have to search for just one of your keywords or a broader version of your keywords when searching for books by topic.

Searching Primo for books

Primo is our library catalog and search tool, allowing you to search print and electronic books, articles, images, and much more, all in one place.

Limiting to "Books and more" will limit your search to CSU Libraries' owned and purchasable books, journals, special collections, etc.

Example:

Primo search for "depression" limited to Books and more.

To limit your results to books and eBooks only, use the Source Type limit and select Books/eBooks.

Primo source type limiter options with Books/eBooks highlighted.
