Differences Between JavaScript and Java

JavaScript is a script employed in HTML documents and enables webpages to be more interactive.  This script is primarily used when HTML cannot achieve these more dynamic features.  JavaScript is a scripting language, while Java is a programming language.  As a programming language, Java creates applications that run in a virtual machine or browser. 

What is most important for the end-user to know is that they require different plug-ins.

Enabling Java: Safari

To enable the Java web plug-in in Safari, follow these steps:

  1. In Safari, choose Safari > Preferences or press Command-comma (⌘-,)
  2. Click "Security".
  3. Check "Enable Java".
  4. Close the Safari preferences window.
