What is Peer Review?
Peer review is a quality control process for academic/scholarly journals where experts in a field review research article submissions to evaluate their quality and validity.
Peer review does not guarantee quality (it is not a fault-free process), but ti does mean that peer-reviewed articles an generally be considered reliable.
Journals that employ the peer review process may also be called "refereed journals," "academic journals," or "scholarly journals."
Is a Journal Peer-Reviewed?
To see if a journal is peer-reviewed, look up the journal title in Ulrich's database. If there is a referee jersey icon next to the title, it is refereed (peer-reviewed).
Note that not everything contained in peer-reviewed journals undergoes the review process. Letters to the editor, opinion pieces or comment articles, and book reviews are not peer-reviewed.
