Activity related to the College of Forestry and Natural Resources was accommodated in this small building located behind the Forestry and J. V. K. Wagar Buildings. It was designed by Physical Plant Department staff members. Originally, this building was intended to serve as the National Resource Ecology Laboratory (NREL). The NREL was established in 1967 to administer the multidisciplinary Grassland Biome Study of the International Biological Program (IBP). This program ran from 1968 until 1974.
In November 1971 the NREL functions were moved to the original Grasslands Laboratory on Lake Street. This building began being used by the Natural Resources Research Laboratory (NRRL). In September 1974 the State Board of Agriculture renamed the building Natural Resources Research Laboratory. Today this facility is utilized as a research lab for the Forest Sciences and Rangeland Ecosystem Science Departments.
