1330 Center Avenue Mall
Architects Tom Obermeier and Alan Zeigel of OZ Architecture of Denver designed this massive building to span the Center Avenue Mall running through the Main Campus and to connect two existing science buildings. The Hensel Phelps Construction Company began construction on the “Chemistry–Biosciences Hall” in the summer of 2000. It was completed in the summer of 2002 and it cost $20 million. On April 24, 2003, it was renamed in honor of Colorado State University's President Albert C. Yates as he went into retirement.
“Yates Hall” is occupied by a multitude of departments such as Chemistry, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biology as well as the Biocore Program. The building houses 27 laboratories and a 295-seat auditorium. This five-story structure is physically connected to the Chemistry Building and the Anatomy/Zoology Building creating a massive building complex. The pedestrian/bicycle mall that was once Center Avenue runs under the elevated center portion of “Yates Hall” as people pass through its unique archway located just south of the landmark Newton’s Corner sculpture.
