1385 Center Avenue Mall

Construction began in late September 1987 on this 91,549-square-foot building, which has housed several departments, including environmental and radiological health sciences. This facility carried forward a field initially pioneered by University Distinguished Professor Mortimer Elkind and others. Along with 16 research laboratories and five teaching laboratories, the $13 million structure had an undergraduate resource room and x-ray crystallography equipment. Professor Elkind oversaw planning, and Governor Roy Romer officiated at the dedication on October 20, 1989.
